Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,
Happy Christmas Eve and we hope you enjoyed a happy Hanukkah!
If you follow our Facebook, Instagram, X, or Bluesky, you may have recently seen the inspiring story and photos Anna Davies created about Hazel Carias-Urbina, another former Reading to Kids kid who now volunteers with us!
Hazel is an award-winning researcher, community builder, and future librarian! Click on any image to see it full size:
From 2007 to 2011, Reading to Kids helped Hazel engage with stories, enjoy book discussions, and experience how fun reading could be. Now, Hazel is a graduate student at San Jose State University, earning her Master's degree in Library and Information Science! Selected as an ALA Spectrum Scholar, Hazel is part of a national cohort recognized for their leadership potential and commitment to community building and social justice.
Through her work, education, volunteering, and research, Hazel leads by elevating community histories and voices to build compassion and drive change.
Power stories like Hazel's by donating to Reading to Kids 2025 Annual Fund Drive! Your support helps young readers grow into future community leaders!

167 MORE DONORS NEEDED IN LAST SEVEN DAYS OF 2025!
It's the final seven days of our
2025 Annual Fund Drive, and we need your help to reach our goals before the end of the year!
Thanks to those generous volunteer readers and the Facebook fundraisers created by volunteers Matthew Jones, Mark May, Jessica Chong, Courtney Smythe, and Romi Boucher we have now raised $62,053 overall from 333 donors!
This brings us closer to our goal of raising $70,000 from 500 donors within the next week!
Here's how you can help us meet our $70,000 goal before our fund drive ends on the 31st:
1) Make a pledge to donate by check or donate online
today by visiting our
2025 Annual Fund Drive. Contributions of any amount are
greatly appreciated!
2) Show your support by asking friends and family to
contribute!
Visit our
2025 Annual Fund Drive
page and look under the "Help us Fundraise!"
header for resources, including information on creating your own
personalized fundraising page on Facebook, our handy
donor sheet for raising money with your friends and
co-workers,
tips for fundraising, and so much more.
Once they know about Reading to Kids, many of your
friends and family will want to donate -
we just need you to ask!
Finally, if your workplace matches donations to nonprofits, please share
with them your donation, and ask them to consider matching it. In this way you
double your donation and share with others your enthusiasm
for Reading to Kids!

A FEW MORE RUNNERS NEEDED FOR THE 2026 LA MARATHON OR LA 5K!
Do you know any runners? Are you a
runner? Please forward this email to them
and ask them to join
Team Reading to Kids in the 2026 Los
Angeles Marathon on Sunday,
March 8th!
This is our 12th time running the marathon, and we're looking for four more marathon runners to join us in one of the best marathons in the country.

If you or a runner you know is interested in
becoming one of our fundraising runners or
creating a fundraising team, please email
Chris Martin at
marathon@readingtokids.org!
IMPORTANT NOTE: To register to run
on behalf of Reading to Kids, you
MUST receive from us a special web address
to use when registering on the Los Angeles Marathon website.
