Volunteer at Crosswords LA Tournament
Sharpen your pencils! We are looking for a few wonderful Reading to Kids volunteers to help out with Crosswords LA Tournament on May 1st. All profits of this event benefit Reading to Kids!

Volunteer to Work Shifts at Our Booth

Half-day PUZZLE COLLECTORS: Volunteers collect the papers of completed competitors, noting the time at which each puzzle was completed. Requires attentiveness to when hands are raised, rapid action to collect papers, careful attention to the clock, and legible handwriting!

Half-day SCORERS: Volunteers assess completed puzzles against correct puzzles, highlighting and then counting missed cells, letters and words. Requires careful attention to detail and patience with messy puzzle-solvers! Scoring is our biggest need. It is also the most important of the tasks at the tournament.

General Information

What is Crosswords LA?
Five unpublished NY Times puzzles, two group puzzle games, lunch, a snack, freebies, raffle prizes, tournament prizes. Head-to-head-to-head finals on giant boards, in front of an audience. All profits go to Reading to Kids.

Lunch/Snack Details:
As a thank you for their commitment, full-day volunteers will be provided with lunch. Half-day volunteers will be provided with bagels and cream cheese (in the morning) and cookies (in the afternoon).

Note: Volunteer assignments may change on the day of the tournament, as based on needs at the time.

IMPORTANT: It's vital that volunteers show up for their assignments. If, for any reason, a volunteer cannot make it, we request at least 24 hours notice such that we can reorganize to accommodate the absence.
