Discussion topics for before reading:
•  Open the book and look at the words and drawings on the pages. Does this look like most books you read?
•  What does this unique style of writing tell you about the story?

Vocabulary:
•  Slithered - to move easily and quickly across a surface while twisting or curving. {ver}
•  Disguise - change or hide one's identity. {nou}
•  Old fashioned - no longer current or common. {adj}

Discussion topics for during/after reading:
•  Do you think Rumple is weird? Isn't everyone weird in their own way? What makes you weird?
•  Was Rumple fooling anyone with his disguise?
•  Do you think the pajama jam sounds like a fun party?
•  Do you think cotton candy pancakes taste good? Do you also use syrup with them?

Craft ideas:
•  Create a Rumple Buttercup complete with 5 crooked teeth, 3 strands of hair, green skin, and don't forget his left foot is slightly bigger than his right
•  Draw the weirdest (coolest) thing ever!

Special activities:
•  Please bring the kids back by 11:10 for the magic show that starts at 11:15!

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
